Rangitāmiro: Continued progression for whānau wellbeing

Sustained prosperity for all whānau is the primary focus for the new upper North Island Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency, Rangitāmiro, now the Outcomes Agreement has been signed with Te Puni Kokiri. Rangitāmiro is the collaborative entity with the National Hauora Coalition (NHC), Ngaa Pou Hauora oo Taamaki Makaurau Iwi Maaori Partnership Board and Te Tiratū Iwi Māori Partnership Board. Rangitāmiro houses Region One spanning Te Tai Tokerau, Tāmaki Makaurau, Waikato, Hauraki and Tuwharetoa.

NHC Chief Executive, Dr Rachel Brown says their prime focus during this transition is continued progression for whānau wellbeing with minimal disruption for all.

“We are firmly committed to putting whānau first in all decisions and actions, prioritising their needs, wellbeing and aspirations. With the three entities working together we will have more whānau ora navigators throughout Region One allowing us to broaden our reach and support more whānau”.

Te Tiratū Iwi Māori Partnership Board Chief Executive, Brandi Hudson is clear about their intentions for Rangitāmiro.
“We are collectively focused on transforming outcomes, not ticking boxes and we will achieve this through trusting, engaging relationships with whānau while delivering services in the right way, at the right time”.

From July 1, 2025, Rangitāmiro, alongside Ngāi Tahu Iwi Māori Partnership Board, Ngāti Toa, and The Cause Collective become the new commissioning agency structure across Aotearoa.

Simon Royal, Chief Executive of Ngaa Pou Hauora oo Taamaki Makaurau Iwi Maaori Partnership Board understands the weight this kaupapa brings.

“Rangitāmiro – Ko te aroha te taukaea rangitāmiro i a tātau ki a tātau. It means love and care is the thread that binds us all together. It’s our responsibility to represent the voice ofwhānau, hapū and iwi to shift outcomes for whānau and ensure smoother access to the health and social services they need, when they need it”.
