Maungakiekie, otherwise known as One Tree Hill is one of the oldest volcanoes in the Auckland volcanic field and is about 30,000 years old, its summit stands 184 meters above sea level. Maungakiekie means ‘Mountain of Kiekie Vines’ and it is one of the 14 tūpuna maunga co-governed by the Tūpuna Maunga Authority. Today Maungakiekie is one of the largest pre-European archaeological sites in Aotearoa.
