Te Pane o Mataoho, otherwise known as Mangere Mountain erupted about 50,000 years ago making it one of the eldest volcanoes in the region. Te Pane o Mataoho translates as ‘The head of Mataoho’, who is the guardian of all volcanic mountains and underground secrets hidden beneath the earth here in Tāmaki Makaurau.
